Where has Originality Gone?
Okay, the title of this post may be a bit misleading, since there are a lot of instances of creativity still out there and also a lot of instances of someone taking an already established idea and doing something interesting with it.
But for some reason, some supposed "creative" people out there seem to think it is a good idea to re-do and/or re-think ideas that have been established, treasured, and admired for years. Of course, off the ground, this is a dangerous thing. No matter what, the minute you announce your intentions to re-do something, people will automatically move into their groups: those who will hate it--no matter what--because it's not the original, those that will love it--no matter what--because it's not the original, those who will ignore it because of what it is based on, and those who are intrigued by it off the bat.
But, at least in my opinion, there are a lot of instances lately where there are properties that have been re-done and badly. I won't name them, because the point of this post isn't to point fingers, but rather to just rant against people attempting it.
Look, if you love the original and want to reclaim the magic by re-thinking it and making it more accessible for the younger generation, go for it. But if you want to piggyback your fame to a known property and think you can do it better, GIVE IT UP!
