Hypocrisy
The whole sniper case has me wondering (as does the Green River killer and tons of other cases)...is it wrong to be against the Death Penalty and yet for it in certain circumstances.
I think we're so used to seeing things as "this way or that way." Can't we try and find other options?
The worst part is when we fool ourselves into thinking that we have other options. Take politics. We have Republican or Democrat. Sure we have third parties, but they seem to be there more to placate those who won't choose rather then to actually present a viable option. When the two jocks of the school run for school president and their third opponent is the school's biggest nerd, does anyone really ever think of voting for the nerd? Sure people will say they will, but no one really things the nerd will win.
Getting back to the death penalty, my main problem with it is the fear of killing the wrong person. And yes, "an eye for an eye only leaves you blind" applies, but why give these guys a chance to breath when they didn't even take a second to wonder if their victim should live or not.
I think it's time to realize that there are cases when we have to realize that things aren't black and white, but sometimes we have to let in the gray. And sometimes the choice we'd never think of are the ones that we should choose.
