Toys are meant to be played with, comics are meant to be read

I hate to label myself as a "collector" even though I do "collect" toys and comics. My main problem with the title is that "collector" carries with it the stigma of buying something to have it and to show it off. I prefer to buy something and open it up, either to read it or play with it.

It just annoys me that there are people out there who will purchase three or four copies (if not more!) of a comic just to keep them in bags. The same goes for toys.

A local convention is coming to town and they are proudly advertising the chance to see an original Action Comics #1. My wife made some comment about me wanting to buy it and I told her if I did (and spent most of the money we have to do so!), I'd just want to open it, which does not one any good.

If you're someone who enjoys collecting things to put on display in their original box, bag, whatever, well that's your choice. Me? I can't wait to rip those suckers open and enjoy what's inside.
